Crystal Palace have made a loan attempt for Manchester United winger Ashley Young.

The Guardian says they were told Young was only available for a permanent departure.

The former England international arrived at Old Trafford in an £18m deal from Aston Villa four years ago.

He made 18 Premier League appearances under Louis van Gaal last term, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process.

But the 31-year-old was not involved when Jose Mourinho's side opened their campaign with a 3-1 win at Bournemouth.
