Crystal Palace are in talks to send Andros Townsend back to Newcastle United.
The Daily Mail says Townsend is open to the move but seeking an initial loan.
The 25-year-old wants to take stock of his situation in the summer once the futures of both clubs are clearer.
Newcastle are pushing for promotion to the Premier League while Palace are hoping to stay up and Townsend would obviously prefer to play in the top flight.
Palace would prefer to recoup the majority of the £13million they paid Newcastle last summer now to re-channel into Sam Allardyce's transfer funds for the final week of this window.
Palace are due to pay the next £3m instalment from that fee this month but may negotiate that as part of a loan fee.
