Crystal Palace fullback Joel Ward admits they were shocked by the manner of their defeat to Sunderland.
Palace were thumped 4-0 at home by the Black Cats.
Ward told the Croydon Advertiser: "We couldn't cope with what they threw at us and it was unacceptable.
"We wanted to go in with the momentum from beating Bournemouth on the Tuesday night and we didn't do that. By the time we did, it was too late.
"Of course, if we had got the first goal it's a massive boost for the side, but we didn't and then we made it too easy for them to get their noses in front and gifted them too many goals.
"We have to get together now as players, dust ourselves off, roll up our sleeves and go again.
"At the end of the day if we don't do that then we're going to be in very big trouble."
