Crystal Palace defender Tomkins welcomes new coach Sammy Lee

Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins has welcomed new coach Sammy Lee.

Lee has joined the club as assistant manager to Sam Allardyce, having previously worked with the Eagles boss during his time at Bolton Wanderers and his brief spell in charge of England.

Lee was involved in training for the first time yesterday (Wednesday), and Tomkins said he made a good early impression on the squad.

"Sammy Lee met with the lads and he spoke well," Tomkins told the Croydon Advertiser.

"Training went well and he said the spirit seems right and he is looking forward to working with us and trying to improve us.

"We will see how it goes and hopefully it will be a good partnership, with all of us together to shoot up the league."
