Crystal Palace boss Pardew: We must do better against direct free-kicks

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew admits they need a rethink in their defending at direct free-kicks after Romelu Lukaku's goal for Everton last night.

Pardew admitted he would be looking at how Palace defend free-kicks after Lukaku struck over a static wall for the Everton opener in the first half.

He said: "We're debating whether to jump, stand tall or jump and we probably got that wrong. The goalie wasn't happy, he felt we should have jumped and maybe we should have.

"I thought it was a bit harsh to give the free-kick.

"The instruction is if it's close to stand tall, when it's a little bit further out then jump, but it was in that area in between, so we've got to have a look at that."

On the game as a whole, the Eagles boss felt his side did enough to take all three points.

"They ticked that box [being brave]. Everton had a couple of spells where you could see their quality and took the lead but we wouldn't lie down, we changed things a little bit in the second half and probably deserved to win it."
