Cruzeiro turn down English bid for Everton Ribeiro

Everton Ribeiro's agent has revealed that Cruzeiro have rejected a bid of around £8.3million from an English club for the playmaker.

The 24-year old Brazilian, who has already been linked with Manchester United, was the subject of an offer from an unnamed club which his club turned down out of hand.

"We did bring a €10million offer to Cruzeiro for Everton Ribeiro but we won't reveal the club in order not to affect the negotiations, after all they are in the middle of their season," agent Robson Ferreira told Lancenet.

"We presented the offer to Cruzeiro, we talked and we will schedule another meeting within the next days. The club want to keep him and the player also wants to help the club in the Copa Libertadores. We'll try to merge all the interests."

Cruzeiro director of football Alexandre Mattos added: "Everton was one of the players that came to Cruzeiro with potential and, together with his team-mates, turned that into reality.

"He won individual awards. He is happy, but there is no offer that makes the president change his stance. Yesterday one more arrived from an English club to which Cruzeiro said 'no' immediately."
