Croatia manager Bilic backs Tottenham’s Redknapp for England job

Croatia national team boss Slaven Bilic believes Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is a shoe-in for the England job.

Croatia national team boss Slaven Bilic believes Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is a shoe-in for the England job.

The former West Ham United and Everton defender spent time under the Spurs boss at Upton Park in the 1990s so is well-versed to pass judgment on him and thinks the Football Association will make the choice to appoint him ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

"Everybody thinks the same way,” he said at a Euro 2012 finalists workshop.

"I think that the FA's got an easy choice because, for everyone, it's Harry.

"I'm not a gambling man and I'm not the one who decides, but I can't see anyone else, to be honest.

"It's Harry's job, that's it, and he wants it, that's for sure.”

On his own experiences under Redknapp, Bilic added: "He's brilliant. He's one of the few that can keep under control so many stars.

"At Portsmouth, he had 25 really good players because he was buying and buying and buying.

"One of the toughest tasks for the manager is to cope with the players of the same high quality and for them all to be satisfied and happy.

"He's done that at Portsmouth, he's done that extremely well at Spurs, where he has - I don't know - 20 world-class players.

"That is one of the biggest tasks in the national team.
"All I can say about Harry as a manager is 'smashing'."
