Cristian Zapata declares he's close to AC Milan return

Cristian Zapata is edging closer to a playing return at AC Milan.

The Colombia defender is on his way back from ankle surgery.

“I'm very happy to have taken part in training with my teammates," Zapata said in an interview with Milan TV.

“I've definitely missed a lot, I was out of action for three months. It's a very nice feeling to be back with my teammates. I'm slowly working toward a permanent return to the squad.

“I feel very good, the preparation is going really well. It was a serious injury, but I'll definitely return soon and I'm doing the physical work to get back into shape.

“The most important thing is the pitch, staying on the sidelines is the hardest thing. My teammates keep telling me I've finally finished my holiday…

“The Coach [Vincenzo Montella] is very attentive and always makes a point of asking how I am. I don't expect anything more to get fit again and be part of this great squad.

“I've seen a united team which has responded to difficulty really well. I talk to my teammates and they're feeling good. From the outside you can see a team which wants to play good football.
