Crewe striker Max Clayton training with Sunderland
The 19-year-old out-of-contract striker failed to return to pre-season training with the rest of the Crewe squad last week and manager and Steve Davis admitted that Clayton was 'trying his luck elsewhere' and had gone to train with another club for two weeks.
The Crewe boss was tight-lipped about which club Clayton was training with, but the Daily Mirror has reported that Sunderland are that club.
Despite being out of contract, any club would have to agree a fee with the Alex for Clayton's services as he is under the age of 24.
