Crewe Alexandra players are delighted for former teammate Nick Powell over his move to Manchester United.
Crewe team-mates who progressed from youth-team football to League One with Powell took to Twitter to offer their congratulations.
Fellow striker Max Clayton, aged 17, who Manchester United were reportedly keen on including in the deal, said: "Congratulations Nick, well deserved."
Defender Matt Tootle said: "Told you Powelly lad, you are decent. Thanks for all those megs in training."
Midfielder Luke Murphy added: "Congrats to Nick Powell signing for United. Unbelievable player and I'm sure he's gonna smash the Prem."
And former Crewe skipper Ashley Westwood added: "Made up for Nick Powell. It's been a pleasure to have played with him."
Released Crewe midfielder Lee Bell tipped Powell to shine at the 2014 World Cup, adding: "If the figures going around are true, that's cheap for him."
