Crewe boss Davis: We can be proud of beating Arsenal in FA Youth Cup

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says the club can be proud of their FA Youth Cup team.

The U18s stunned Arsenal in the Cup this week.

Davis told The Sentinel: "They have done brilliant I have to say.

"All credit goes to the Academy on that, everyone that has worked with those lads over the years.

"Arsenal spend millions of pounds on their Academy and buy players, the majority of ours come from down the road so it's fantastic achievement.

"To get to this stage of the competition is 'no fluke'. They have beaten some good sides along the way, they have an even bigger one coming up against a team who have spent hundreds of millions on their Academy in terms of the facilities so it will be a real test to come.

"The name of Crewe Alexandra is always held in high esteem wherever I go.

"When I go to meetings everyone always speaks very highly of the Academy, what it stands for, what we're about and we do it on a shoestring compared to many other clubs but we are still looking at ways to improve it.

"It's important that we don't stand still, we look to improve and almost want to guarantee that those better players do make it to our first-team and are good enough."
