Crewe boss Davis insists not right time for Man Utd, Arsenal target Clayton to leave

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has dismissed talk of Max Clayton moving to Arsenal or Manchester United.

Davis admits that scouts are well aware of the 18-year-old's obvious talents.

But he says he has not had to field any telephone calls about his availability - and firmly believes that Gresty Road is the right place for Clayton to be nurtured.

Davis told The Sentinel: "I've had no inquiries about Max, only people watching, along with a lot of our other players, so it's only a rumour.

"He's not ready to go anywhere. He's just finding his feet with us at the moment. He's got a bit to learn yet before he leaves this football club.

"When the situation is right he will leave to go in somebody's first team.

"There is no real point him going and playing into a development group when he's playing regularly here. This is the best education he can get."
