Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is eager to accelerate the match fitness of new signing Lauri Dalla Valle.
The former Liverpool and Fulham striker, 23, signed for Crewe last week.
"We're not sure - he may need another 70 minutes or so, we don't want to give him a full game leading up until the weekend but maybe a good 60 or 70 minutes wouldn't do him any harm from being away at the weekend," Davis told The Sentinel.
"With it being a reserve game it gives us the chance to play some of the older ones, we don't have the under-21s rules for that, we can play who we want to play.
"That's what the game has been fixed up for.
"With not having a weekend game and no under-21s game it will give some of the first-team professionals a chance to get the cobwebs out and put themselves forward for the weekend."
