Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is pushing Brad Inman to step up his game.
The former Newcastle United attacker scored only four times in 40 appearances last season.
Davis said: "I hope Brad benefits from having a quieter summer. He certainly needs to have a good summer.
"We didn't see the best of Brad. He needs to be coming back fit and well and ready because he was disappointing last season. He wasn't the player that we had on loan.
"He's a very laid back lad, maybe with a three-year deal he might have thought he could relax too much. It's not as much a concern with the scholars because they're a different breed.
"Brad's attitude is up and down. Some days he is brilliant and some days he has been very frustrating.
"That's just the way he is, but he needs to do better next season. We need to be getting more from him."
