Crewe boss Davis big fan of Football League loan system

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is fully supportive of the loan system.

More than 50 deals were rushed through on the final two days of the Football League window as clubs looked to shape their squads ahead of the busy festive period.

"Everyone is different but it supplements our group," Davis told The Sentinel.

"Certainly clubs that have got smaller squads they rely on the loan system.

"Clubs can pay their players bigger wages because they don't have as big a squad and don't have an Academy so they pump money in to the first-team so if they get injuries or suspensions they bring in the loan players.

"With the way the results have gone we felt it was the right thing to do and it's good for filling holes that you've got in your squad.

"Ideally you wouldn't want to bring a lot because you don't want to fill your squad with loan players who will end up going back at some point.

"But it also gives your players time to develop whilst you have got those loans here so it's a time factor with the young players so there's various reasons for doing it.

"If we could have recruited in the summer with the ones that we would have wanted then perhaps we wouldn't have had to loan as much now.

"I think every club has different circumstances for doing it and I'm for it because it has helped us in the past."
