Argentine legend Hernan Crespo believes Fiorentina have outdone Juventus in their striker signings. Crespo rates Fiorentina's deal for Mario Gomez ahead of Juve's signing of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente.
"I'm not saying that Juventus' capture of Tevez is normal, but we are more accustomed to seeing such operations carried out by a club of the level of the Bianconeri," Crespo, an ex-striker, told TMW.
"Purchasing a player like the former striker of Bayern Munich, a man who is in the prime of his professional maturity and who comes off the back of a season which saw him win everything, is something very different.
"During the past few years the Viola had, primarily, grown players who then became champions such as Gabriel Batistuta and Manuel Rui Costa.
"But signing someone like Gomez is something major."
