Martin Cranie admits Harry Redknapp was key to him choosing Portsmouth as his next club.

Cranie worked with Redknapp at Southampton and said: "Everything has moved really quickly but I'm really glad to be here. There were a few different clubs in for me but the main thing is I'm joining a club in the Premiership. I spoke to Harry Redknapp. We had a little chat and he made it clear he wanted me. Portsmouth is a club on the up.

"They have been doing well but things are going to get better. There are a lot of very experienced players here. It's going to be good to work with them. If I can do half as much as some of these players have done in their career I'll be happy.

"I don't expect to walk into the team but I want to play some games next season - and push on from there."
