West Bromwich Albion striker Simon Cox is backing teammate Nicky Shorey for an England recall.
The duo were team-mates at Reading when Shorey first came into the national spot-light three years ago.
"He's back to that kind of form - definitely," Cox told the Birmingham Mail.
"Nicky Shorey is a good quality player and the reason he got his England call-up is because he was performing consistently to a very high standard, as he is now.
"I don't see why he can't get back into the England set-up.
"Just because he's in the Premier League with a lesser club - it doesn't matter. Reading were a lesser club in the Premier League, Kevin Davies is 33 and at Bolton.
"The way Fabio Capello is picking his squad then I'm sure anyone can get a call-up if they are playing well enough - Nicky could still get in given the way he's playing."
