Coventry City midfielder Chris Birchall is moving to the United States. The Trinidad and Tobago international looked set to stay at Brunton Park for the remainder of the season after Carlisle agreed a deal with the Sky Blues.
But Birchall has decided to turn his back on the League One club in favour of a mid-season move to the US.
Carlisle manager Greg Abbott told the club's official website: "We couldn't compete with the deal that he has been offered over in America, so we have to accept that he is moving on.
"We wanted to bring him in on a permanent deal and try to get the best out of him, but that hasn't happened for us. He has been offered a package that is terrific for him and his family over there and he decided to go down that route. It goes without saying that we wish him all the best."
