Coventry blocked from deal for Man City's Schmeichel

Coventry have been blocked from signing Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The Sun says Sky Blues boss Iain Dowie wanted to recruit Schmeichel on loan from Manchester City.

But Coventry are £28million in debt and have been unable to meet payments to Southampton for Leon Best, 21.

Striker Best arrived in the summer for £650,000, which was due to be paid to Saints in installments.

And with the threat of administration now hanging over the Championship club, the League have stepped in and stopped keeper Schmeichel from signing.
