Thibaut Courtois admits he would love to become Chelsea’s number one but will remain patient as the club searches for a new manager.
The talented Belgian has again impressed during his second season on loan with Atletico Madrid and although he has a desire to take the number one shirt from Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge, he will wait and see what the new boss has to say in regard to staying or being sent on loan for a third spell.
“If the new manager says, ‘I want Courtois as my first choice’, that is how it will be,” he told The Independent.
“But Petr Cech is a world-class goalkeeper who plays every game at such a high level.
“Chelsea have always been very fair with me and they are also smart people and they know that I need to play.
“I don’t know where that will be but I do know I have proved myself in the two years I have been here [in Madrid].”
