Cottee: Nolan experience crucial for West Ham

West Ham United legend Tony Cottee is delighted with the progress of James Tomkins and Mark Noble.

West Ham United legend Tony Cottee is delighted with the progress of James Tomkins and Mark Noble.

Cottee is pleased at first-team regulars Tomkins and Noble, “arguably, West Ham’s two best players last season”.

However, he also told the Sunday Mirror: “It will be a big season for Kevin Nolan – his experience will be vital. But the man I am looking to make an impact is Carlton Cole. He does have the lot, but he is also a confidence player and needs to be told how good he is.

“Above all, we need a good start, to be mid-table by November-December because, in quick succession, we play Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.

“Unless we have a few points by then, it could be a long winter.”
