Cortes warns Hercules not to get carried away

Hercules defender David Cortes has warned against getting carried away with their flying start to the season.

The promoted outfit travel to Cortes' former club Getafe this weekend in eighth spot in the standings having picked up seven points from five games, a run which has included memorable victories over La Liga big guns Barcelona and Sevilla.

Hercules have also played Valencia and Athletic Bilbao in what has been a testing fixture list to start the campaign, but Cortes knows his side cannot ease up.

"Seven points are very good because the calendar has been tough. We are gaining attention after the victories over Barcelona and Sevilla and for the recent signing of (David) Trezeguet and (Royston) Drenthe, not to mention the earlier one of (Nelson) Valdez, but we must be cautious," said Cortes, who nevertheless believes Hercules are capable of finishing in the top 10 this season if they remain "humble".

When asked about the potential of his old side Getafe and his new one, the 31-year-old said in diarioinformacion.com: "Getafe should finish in the top 10 because last year they were sixth and qualified for the Europa League.

"You cannot demand the same of Hercules as Getafe, although we have the squad to finish in the top if we are humble."
