Corona urges USA not to forget Mexican-based talent

Joe Corona believes the USA national team needs to continue giving opportunities to players based across the border in Mexico.

The 23-year old Club Tijuana was selected in Juergen Klinsmann's preliminary squad for the 2014 World Cup before he was cut from the final 23 for next month's tournament.

A few years ago, Klinsmann indicated that many Latin-American players would begin to be dripped into the national team setup but the German has gone without any for Brazil 2014.

In the wake of his omission form the roster, Corona spoke of his desire to see more Liga MX Americans given the chance to prove themselves at international level.

"Now that Juergen is here and expressed his feelings toward Liga MX and he's done a good job calling players up and giving them participation," Corona said.

"[The U.S.] just has to try and keep an eye on the younger players.

"At Tijuana, there are players who are part of the U-20 and U-17 U.S. teams and they call them up and do a good job bringing them in.

"The U.S. is now learning to take advantage of that."
