Cork: Southampton players laugh at crisist talk

Southampton midfielder Jack Cork has dismissed claims of crisis at St Mary's.

But Cork admitted the players were concerned by the departure of executive chairman Nico Cortese because of the threat that the manager would quickly follow him.

"A few players would see him [Cortese] more than others. I saw him at the Christmas do and he was a good chairman but I really don't think it is going to affect any of us.

"The week was not much different to other weeks, even though there was all that talk of meltdown. It has never felt like that. We go in and train and play football like we always do.

"We were laughing at talk of us imploding. That was never going to happen. There has been a lot of silly talk. The gaffer came in and said 'I am not going anywhere, we carry on'. That was nice to hear.

"It is vital he stays and we keep this thing going next season. For footballers it is the manager, he is the one who deals with us. He is the one we see every day, talks to us and gives us the confidence to play. What happens above that should not affect us."
