Arsene Wenger has admitted that even he has been left surprised by the meteoric rise of young duo of Francis Coquelin and Hector Bellerin.

Arsenal continued their brilliant run of form by claiming a fine 4-1 victory over Liverpool on Saturday and once again the stand out players for the Gunners during the clash was the duo of Francis Coquelin and Hector Bellerin.

Both Coquelin and Bellerin have gone on to become integral components of the Arsenal side this season and now even manager Wenger has admitted that he has been surprised by how seamlessly the young duo have managed to shoulder the responsibility of regular first team football.

"Honestly, I couldn't say that in my head Coquelin was one of the first-choice players," said the Arsenal manager. "But my job is to remain open-minded and make decisions when you have to.

"Bellerin is one of the surprises of the season. He was at Watford on loan last year and didn't get the games. He's just 20 years old and you can look at what he does at 20 years of age."
