Steve Coppell is being linked with a shock return at Reading.

The Daily Star says Coppell is in line for a sensational return at Reading as replacement for Brendan Rodgers, who quit yesterday after only six months in charge.

Former Watford boss Rodgers, 36, left after a meeting with Reading chairman John Madejski.

Madejski, who is keen to sell the club, has seen Reading manage only five wins in 21 Championship fixtures to stray close to the drop zone.

Coppell, 54, was the most successful manager in Reading's history until he left in May.
