The first group stage matches of the 2011 Copa America in Argentina are complete with just two teams recording wins. Yesterday saw Uruguay take on Peru (1-1) whilst Chile were up against the in-form Mexico (2-1) who were fresh off their CONCACAF Gold Cup triumph in the USA.
Hamburg striker Paolo Guerrero kicked off the San Juan double header when he rounded Uruguay keeper Fernando Muslera to open the scoring for Peru in the 23rd minute before Liverpool star Luis Suarez leveled the score on the stroke of half-time with his 18th international goal to force a draw.
The second match saw Mexico take a 40th minute lead through Nestor Araujo's looping header but Chile rallied when substitute Esteban Paredes bundled home in the 66th minute before Arturo Vidal grabbed a winner just over 20 minutes from time with a header from the near post.
Chile are at the top of Group C thanks to the win and next take on Uruguay on Friday, July 8 whilst Peru meet Mexico on the same day - both matches are in Mendoza.
The next lot of Copa America action will pit hosts Argentina against Colombia in Group A from Santa Fe on Wednesday.
