Things have not started well for hosts Argentina in the 2011 Copa America following their scoreless draw on Wednesday night. La Albiceleste were heavily favoured to beat Colombia in Santa Fe but the world's 10th-ranked team were unable to cut through the defense of the determined Los Cafeteros who had enough chances of their own to win the Group A match.
Colombia should have taken the lead when Gustavo Ramos somehow spooned the ball over the crossbar from pointblank range before Mauricio Moreno missed an open goal in the 26th minute.
These narrow misses sparked Argentina into action with Ezequiel Lavezzi being denied by Luis Martinez before both keepers produced a number of vital saves to attain clean sheets for their nations with Argentina's Sergio Romero the Player of the Match but the Colombian would clearly be the happier of the two glovemen.
After the match, Argentina boss Sergo Batista admitted that things were not going the way he would have liked them to in the group stage of the tournament.
"The things are not doing the way they were in the friendly matches (...) No one expected this kind of game, nothing comes out the way we expected, we lost again ...", he said after seeing his side record their second draw following the 1-1 result against Bolivia in the opening game.
"I remain confident about these players, they are are very good. We're a little slow in the front. This does not require major change, we will play with two defensive midfielders and maybe one more winger, one man is missing in the area.
"We have a game against Costa Rica, and we can have five points to qualify. We need to keep calm, think it is a final and come out with this mentality."
Argentina next take on Costa Rica in Cordoba on Monday and it could be a must-win depending on what happens between the Costa Ricans and Bolivia tonight whilst grouip leaders Colombia are up against Bolivia on Sunday.
On Friday we have a Group C double header with Uruguay meeting Chile and Peru taking on Mexico in Mendoza.
