Manchester City are ready to hand chief Garry Cook a new contract.

The News of the World says Cook will be offered a new five-year contract to stay at Manchester City.

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak offered Cook the huge vote of confidence as reward for the work he has carried out since Sheikh Mansour arrived at the club in 2008.

To many it looked as though the former Nike Brand president was wearing the patience of his employers thin.

But it has become clear that, internally, Cook is highly regarded with Sheikh Mansour believing he still has the right man in place to turn City into one of Europe's elite on the football field.
