Contract talks on backburner for Villa's Petrov

Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov does not want to think about a new contract just yet and is focusing on playing football.

The Bulgarian international's contract expires at the end of next season but Villa boss Martin O'Neill is keen to secure his services.

Petrov revealed there has been no discussion in regards to a contract extension at Villa Park.

"There have been no talks - not at all," said Petrov.

"My job now is to play football.

"If the club is interested to offer me a new contract, they will contact my agent and speak about that.

"It is no priority at the moment. There are other priorities at the moment - for the club to finish in the top four of the Barclays Premier League and go as far as we can in the Uefa Cup."
