Wigan midfielder Denny Landzaat is to visit a specialist to discover whether he requires surgery on a fractured eye socket.
The Holland international sustained the injury in the defeat against Newcastle earlier this month and has since been complaining of blurred vision.
Latics boss Chris Hutchings told the Manchester Evening News : "We decided to send Denny to a specialist and he could need surgery.
"We have, however, been told if that is the case then it will be the same length of time he would have been out recovering from blurred vision.
"We'll know more after he's seen a specialist but if surgery is agreed upon it will not prolong the injury he's already got."
