Wigan hit with fine

Wigan have been fined £20,000 by the Football Association for their players' behaviour in last month's defeat at Newcastle.

The Barclays Premier League club were cited following the 1-0 loss at St James' Park on September 1, when Kevin Kilbane was sent off and players angrily confronted referee Steve Bennett on two occasions.

At a regulatory commission hearing, Latics officials admitted two charges of 'failing to ensure that their players and officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion'.

A club spokesman said: "We confirm and acknowledge the punishment but do not wish to make any further comment."
