Wigan boss Steve Bruce is hoping to convince Marcus Bent to remain at the JJB Stadium this summer - so long as the club avoid the drop.
The 29-year-old striker has scored seven goals in 28 appearances, although the last came just before Christmas, since when he has played 13 games without finding the net.
Bruce would certainly like to keep Bent at the club once his loan expires, but knows that depends on Wigan avoiding relegation.
However, with the Latics eight points clear of the drop zone with five matches to play, there is every chance Bruce will be sitting down with Bent to discuss a permanent deal.
"It's something we have in place, something triggered to us staying in the Premier League," said Bruce.
"We have had preliminary talks with him and his agent, and the one thing we are looking at if we stay up is that this summer we will have another conversation."
