West Brom boss Mowbray wants to shake-up academy

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray admits he wants to shake up the club's academy.

"We're trying to affect all aspects of the club," said Mowbray. "The academy and youth of the club is something I want to get my hands on, to get my belief and philosophies across.

"The dilemma I have is that I want to bring in young footballers, like your MacDonalds and Martis so they raise the standard of the kids.

"At the moment the gulf between the youth players and the first team players is too large.

"We want to raise the standard of the youth team by bringing in six or seven players who may only cost £50,000 or £100,000 who become the underbelly and may not be quite ready for the first-team but will raise the standard of the youth team. It's something I've spoken to the chairman about."
