Sweden's Wilhelmsson breaks down

Christian Wilhelmsson looks set to miss the rest of Euro 2008 after suffering a thigh injury.

The Sweden midfielder sustained the problem in Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Greece and had to be replaced by Markus Rosenberg 12 minutes from time.

Wilhelmsson, an experienced member of Lars Lagerback's side with 50 caps, will now have to sit out the remaining group games against Spain and Russia.

And team doctor Anders Valentin does not believe he could recover quickly enough to feature later in the tournament if Sweden progress.

"He has torn a muscle in his right thigh and there is no way in our opinion that he will be fit again before the end of the tournament," said Valentin.

It is not possible for Sweden to call in a replacement for Wilhelmsson, while defender Niclas Alexandersson is also doubtful for the next match against Spain on Saturday.

Wilhelmsson told Sportbladet: "I am happy we won, we played a fantastic match.

"But it is tough with the injury. I felt the hamstring. It feels like five or six weeks."
