The 34-year-old has spent the pre-season training with the Potters, and boss Tony Pulis has not ruled out the possibility of offering Matteo a combined player-coach role.

"We asked Dominic to get involved with the young players and the reserves," Pulis told BBC Radio Stoke.

"He is experienced and wants to remain in the game and we want to give him the opportunity to enjoy coaching."
