SFA chief executive Gordon Smith believes the Scottish national team will benefit from FIFA's move to limit the number of foreign players in club line-ups.
"I wouldn't say we welcome it wholly, but we see it would help the national team," Smith told BBC Sport.
"I would hope clubs see it's a rule for the betterment of the game in general."
While some of the higher-profile leagues in Europe may face considerable upheaval, many clubs in the SPL already play six or more Scottish players and would not have to change their squads significantly. Such a dependence on Scottish players has been widely credited for the resurgence of Scottish football both in Europe and on the international stage.
Any proposals from FIFA however would not come into place until 2012 and would face stiff opposition from EU employment laws.
