Weir told Scotland on Sunday: "I was 10 minutes from home when, I don't know, a gust of wind or a patch of ice spun the car around. It was a tricky moment.
"I managed to get it on to the hard shoulder, facing the opposite direction but if I hadn't reacted quickly I might have ended up on the wrong side of the road and in the line of on-coming traffic. I don't want to make a big thing out of it but I was pretty lucky."
