Preston chairman Derek Shaw admits Paul Simpson is coming under increasing pressure but dismissed suggestions he could soon be sacked.
North End have endured a dreadful start to the season, taking just one point from four games and suffering a humiliating Carling Cup defeat by Football League newcomers Morecambe.
They lie 23rd in the Championship and face a home game against bottom side Sheffield Wednesday after the international break.
"I think we've had a poor start but we've had poor starts before, and hopefully before long we will turn it around," said Shaw.
"I think everybody is under pressure at the moment but it has never been our policy at Preston to get ride of managers willy-nilly.
"Everyone is given a fair crack of the whip and hopefully we can get that first win against Sheffield Wednesday."
