Newcastle's Viduka: I won't celebrate scoring against Middlesbrough

"I love scoring goals but against my old club I think it'll be a different reaction. I might not celebrate," Viduka said. "Will I get a warm reception? What does warm mean? I don't get affected by that.

"Whatever the reception, hot or cold, it won't change my view of the club or the people there. I had a chat to Gareth Southgate before the first game of the season.

"He's a friend and always will be. I'd like to think I played well for Boro. To be honest, I was surprised they didn't open contract talks earlier.

"It is disappointing as a player when you have played for a club and you want to do well and you don't know if you are staying or going with six months of your contract left to go.

"Who knows what we could have achieved. But we did well for a club that had never been in Europe, to get there two seasons in a row and to get to the UEFA Cup final is something special.

"Not many clubs have done that. Some of those games are ones that I'll remember for the rest of my life - and I still watch some of them again.

"There's been no stick from ex-Boro team-mates ahead of the game. We're all pros and don't get involved in that sort of stuff."
