Newcastle Martins attitude blasted by Nigerian coach

Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu has warned Obafemi Martins that he must improve his attitude towards international football or face the drop.

In four years as an international, Martins has made just 21 appearances, scoring 13 goals, and infamously went AWOL for an international towards the end of last season.

While acknowledging his quality as a player, Amodu questioned the 23-year-old's commitment and suggested that unless his attitude changes, he may find himself not being selected.

"We have to be careful about the issue of Martins because he is a good player, even though no one is indispensable," said the boss.

"However, we cannot force anyone to play for Nigeria, rather we prefer to work with willing players.

"He called me to say he was injured. I insisted that he should still join us for our May friendly in Austria but he did not comply. I want to take him at his word but at the same time, I'm watching him."
