LA Galaxy's Hong Kong date in limbo

On Monday, the Galaxy announced on its website that the team will play a third and final game in Hong Kong against Hong Kong Union on March 9 as part of their Asian tour.

Galaxy assistant General Manager Tom Payne said: "We are very excited to be able to add this important third match to the Galaxy's Asia Tour 2008."

According to Lam Shing Kui, the HKFA deputy general secretary and director of competition, there were initial negotiations but no agreement was reached between both parties.

He said: "We have negotiated with the L.A. Galaxy about a month ago for the match, but since the schedule for our league matches are too tight, we told them we cannot arrange a match with them."

According to Lam, the Galaxy did not contact the HKFA after they rejected them.

Shanghai-based marketing company Bellson Development Group was appointed the marking agent for the game. But they have declined comment when asked about the status of the match.

Lam, however, added that the HKFA is the only official organization to arrange and sanction such friendly matches.

He said: "If the terms are favourable, the Hong Kong club could play a match against the L.A. Galaxy in the future."
