Ince, Shearer top two names for Blackburn

Paul Ince and Alan Shearer are the top two names on Blackburn's shortlist to succeed Mark Hughes.

The Daily Mail says Rovers chairman John Williams is believed to want a younger, more dynamic up-and-coming coach to replace Hughes.

He has called a board meeting for Monday when a short list will be finalised with Ince and Shearer featuring prominently.

Williams is keen on Ince but Blackburn have not yet made an official approach to MK Dons for their manager, who is much sought-after following his success with the League Two champions.

Shearer, who won the League as a player with the Lancashire club, remains the popular choice and was voted the No 1 candidate by a supporters' poll in a Blackburn newspaper.

The former Newcastle and England striker has confirmed that he is interested, although whether he is yet ready to make the move into management is questionable given his burgeoning media career.
