Hunt: Bolton better than current position

Bolton defender Nicky Hunt insists the Trotters are in a false position in the Barclays Premier League.

He believes they are more than capable of banishing their relegation fears and can climb high up the table.

Bolton's success in Europe in midweek was remarkable, given that manager Gary Megson opted to rest a number of key players.

Hunt is convinced they can turn it around in the league, saying: "Our position in the table does not reflect the quality of players we have at the club.

"This is the best squad we have had in the Premier League.

"We did not start well but all the new boss wants is for us to finish as high as we can. Who says we cannot qualify for Europe again?"

Hunt claims the festive period will shape Bolton's season.

He said: "If we can get through the Christmas period with positive results I am sure next year will be a lot better than the one we've had.

"To finish sixth or eighth is not out of the question. The atmosphere is great in the dressing room.

"We are not the kind of players to roll over and die. We will carry on battling until the end of the season."
