FA chairman wants Premiership clubs to be "patriotic"

Football Association chairman Lord Triesman is to meet the overseas owners of Premier League clubs to urge them to be "patriotic".

"Foreign owners are here to make money but I think they are open to people putting a reasonable argument to them that we ought to be patriotic," Triesman said in the Daily Telegraph.

"We have to persuade the people who own the major clubs that they have an absolute interest in the success of England.

"I want to talk to owners, just as I want to talk to senior managers about the willingness to make sure players are available for England.

"These discussions have to take place so everybody feels they have a mutual interest in those goals. Those discussions can be fruitful.''
