Darlington boss Penney dismisses Sheffield Wednesday link

Darlington boss Dave Penney has rubbished reports claiming he is being lined up to replace Brian Laws as Sheffield Wednesday manager, saying they are mere "paper talk".

Reports claim Laws' job is under threat following the Owls poor start to the season and that Penney is being courted by the Hillsborough board after guiding Darlington to the top of League Two.

Penney, who was also linked with the Owls job last September following his departure from Doncaster, said: "It is just paper talk. You can't stop people writing what they want to write but it is all rubbish and I do not know where it has come from.

"There is no vacancy at Sheffield Wednesday so it is not fair on Brian Laws or anyone linked with the job. Sheffield Wednesday did not have a manager this time last year and my name got mentioned but - just like then - it is all rubbish."
