Birmingham's O'Connor has dig at Bruce

Birmingham City striker Garry O'Connor has hit out at former manager Steve Bruce.

O'Connor still has the utmost respect for the now-Wigan boss who signed him from Lokomotiv Moscow for £2.7 million in the summer.

But the 24-year-old hitman feels he personally and Blues collectively would have benefited from a more adventurous approach from Bruce.

"I was a little bit disappointed in the shape he was playing," admitted O'Connor to the Sunday Mercury.

"I wasn't disappointed he never gave me a chance because Cameron Jerome was doing ok.

"He was thinking one up front was working, but in my eyes it seemed better to play two and most of the players thought that too.

"Playing with two strikers from the start of the game we'd have had more opportunities and maybe come away with more points.

"But he was the boss and he was a fantastic player and a fantastic manager so he knows better than me - but players get frustrated."
