Birmingham favourites for Hibs fullback Murphy

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is favourite to land Hibs fullback David Murphy.

The Daily Record says McLeish is lining up a £1.5million transfer swoop next month to grant the Englishman his wish to play in the Premiership.

The former Scotland boss plans to splash £1m up front plus add-ons and a £20,000-a-week pay packet for the 23-year-old full-back.

Murphy, who earns a tenth of that at Easter Road, is under contract until 2010.

But his new agent Willie McKay insists Hibs can't stop Murphy leaving and that they can forget about a megabucks transfer fee.

Hibs are believed to want upwards of £2m but McKay said: "David is a left-back so what kind of money do they think they can get for someone who has told them that he wants to play at a higher level?"
