Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is delighted with the form of former Hibs fullback David Murphy since his January arrival.

"I deliberated over David as I had a short list of four or five players at the left back position that I had in mind," McLeish told the club's official website.

"But I was getting huge prices placed on the heads of ones that had European pedigrees.

"We assessed him and got all the homework done on him and David Murphy ticked as many boxes as these guys if not more and I thought this is a young hungry guy who started his career in The Premier League and now wants to make his name in The Premier League.

"I'm really pleased at how well he's done and I think he's been a very good buy.

"His use of the ball is excellent going forward and it's very important for a full back in the modern game to have great use of the ball.

"He brings us that attacking play and defensively he's also looked very good."
